ISO Conference 28 September 2004

On 28 September 2004, the ISO held its inaugural conference "Insurance... convincing consumers" and its annual meeting in Auckland, New Zealand.

The primary focus was on the 2 issues which are the most frequent reasons for complaints to the ISO and the most problematic: non-disclosure and fraud. We also included a session on disability complaints, explaining how the ISO considers disability complaints by focusing on the process by which decisions are made.

We were pleased to have Sam Parrino, Chief Executive of Insurance Enquiries and Complaints Limited in Australia and Pauline Vamos former director of Financial Services Regulation - Licensing and Business Operations Directorate at the Australian Securities & Investments Commission, 2 distinguished conference speakers. They were joined by leaders in the insurance industry and legal profession, consumer representatives and also an occupational physician.

The ISO would also like to thank our sponsors: AMI Insurance Limited, IAG New Zealand Limited, Fidelity Life Assurance Company Limited, Lumley General Insurance (N.Z.) Limited, American International Assurance Company (Bermuda) Limited, TOWER New Zealand and AMP Financial Services for making the conference possible.
